Curling Rules & Etiquette
- No individual is allowed in the curling arena with street shoes. Everyone must bring
a pair of indoor shoes (such as gym runners) to change into, for use on the curling
ice. Use the boot boy to clean the bottom of your indoor shoes prior to entering the
curling arena itself. - Clean your outdoor shoes on the boot boy inside the entrance of the REC centre so
that you do not track dirt, snow, mud or salt into the change area by the curling
arena. - No food or drinks allowed in the curling arena.
- Never sit, lie down or put your knees or hands on the ice for more than a few seconds
or a flat spot will be melted into the ice. - Don’t throw or shoot the curling rock too hard or too fast that it slams into the hack
or back boards of the sheet, this can permanently damage the rocks and/or the hack. - Don’t sit on the rocks.
- Don’t hit the rocks together, this can cause them to shatter. Curling rocks are only
meant to handle impact if one rock is stationary and has room to move from the
momentum of the delivered rock. - No standing on the black rubber sheet dividers, this can wear bits of rubber off
onto the ice which will affect the rocks. - No slamming stones into the black rubber sheet dividers, if a rock hits a
reinforced joint, it could damage the striking bands on the edge of the rock. - No throwing, pounding or digging brooms into or down the ice surface.
- The following will result in violators being removed from the curling arena:
- Running & Horseplay
- Tampering with equipment
- Lifting rocks off of the ice surface
